The West Hancock Wrestling opened its season at Rockford on Thursday to wrestle Rockford, St. Ansgar and West Fork.

Bolstered by the first full-lineup in a while and ambition the Eagles only lost four matches the entire night defeating St. Ansgar 63-12, Rockford 78-4 and West Fork 82-0.

Forfeits and falls adorned the results sheet, as only a handful of matches were taken through three periods.

Coach Mark Sanger could see the hunger in his team as the duals were approaching
“We’ve been wrestling each other for a couple of weeks and we were ready to wrestle somebody else,” he said. “They looked they were ready to compete [and] get after it.”

The boys hit the mat and pursued their opponents offensively.

Sanger noted times were wrestlers looked sloppy or weren’t executing right, but that could be chalked up to first-night jitters as some wrestlers were wrestling varsity for the first time or returning to the mat after a long hiatus.
