West Hancock Track and Field sends nine events to State

            West Hancock boys and girls track traveled to North Union High School in Armstrong on Friday with their eyes towards a goal.

            Anxiously waiting an extra day from a postponement, the Eagle athletes came to compete and keep their seasons alive with a trip to state.

            Five boys events and four girls events made it through to compete at Drake University.

            The boys finished in fourth place as a team, positing 90 team points.

            Josef Smith punched his ticket individually three times.

            The junior placed first in the 110-meter hurdles and the long jump, running 15.51 and leaping 20-2.

            He placed into second on the 400-meter hurdle with a time of 57.72.

            He will is seeded ninth in the 110-meter hurdle, 14th for the 400-meter hurdle and 14th for the long jump.

            Smith will also participate in a fourth event as part of the 4x100 relay.

            The team consisting of Gavin Becker, Smith, Tate Hagen and Lucas Weiland with Bennett Bruns and Collin Ford serving as alternates finished in third place on Friday.
