Ventura council accepts audit report

VENTURA - The Dec. 23 meeting of the Ventura City Council included acceptance of the audit report for FY18-19 from Renner & Birchem.

The report recommended that the city review its control activities to obtain the maximum internal control possible under the circumstances utilizing currently available staff, including elected officials.

The city responded they have reviewed procedures and will look at improvements, which was accepted.

The recommendation is a similar one with all small towns in Iowa.

“It is impossible to segregate all the financial duties as we only have one and now two employees that handle all the financial dealings for the City,” she noted in a comment to the Leader. “So, no matter what, the report is going to state that. Other than that it has no further findings.”

Taylor offered to have a representative from Renner & Birchem attend a meeting, should the Council have questions regarding the report.

The report is available on the city website:

In other business, the oath of office was administered to councilmen Daryl Heinemann and Cory Caldwell, who were elected on Nov. 5.
