Hobo Days starts this week

The 2019 Early Arrivals to the National Hobo Convention.

        Another year of celebrating those who ride the rails has come around.

            The National Hobo Convention and Britt’s accompanying Hobo Days started early for this year on Tuesday with Hobo Bingo at Westview Care Center and the Kiddie and Pet Parade at the City Gazebo.

            Wednesday features the first bulk of activities with hobo activities with Minneapolis Jewel and other hobo royalty starting at 1 p.m. in the Hobo Jungle.

            At 6:30 p.m. the city will host its golf cart parade on Main Street.

            To end the night, Connecticut Shorty will be doing her annual tour of the Hobo Cemetery at Evergreen Cemetery at 7:30 p.m.

            Thursday at 5:30 p.m., the Little Miss Britt pageant will be held in the City Park at the gazebo.

            Then at 7 p.m. the Official Fire Lighting and Four Winds Ceremony will take place at the Hobo Jungle followed by entertainment.

            On Friday, the hobo community will gather at the Hobo Cemetery at 9 a.m. for the memorial service.

            The 2018 King and Queen portraits will be unveiled shortly after the services at the Hobo Art Gallery on Main Street at 11:30 p.m.

            Friday will also feature poetry at the Hobo Jungle at 5 p.m. and the Family concert at Veteran’s park at 7:30 p.m.

            Saturday, as always, is the big day with the parade led by Grand Marshall Allan Doughan at 10 a.m. and Mulligan Stew in the City Park afterword.
