Garner-Hayfield-Ventura hosted a quad dual meet on Thursday to open the year up.

The Cardinals having four open spots in the lineup, couldn’t muster a win for the evening but could prove they had some talented wrestler regardless.

GHV lost to Nashua-Plainfield 55-22, Lake Mills 73-6 and Newman Catholic 42-37.

Never the less, it was a fun night for the Cardinals who kept a portion of their matches close in front of a sizable home crowd.

“I thought we competed really well,” said coach Corey Jenniges “The kids worked hard on the mat.”

The night had a handful of highlights, and the debuts of several wrestlers for the team including 106-pound freshman Zach Feld and junior heavyweight Cole Dakin.

Dakin wrestled his first match ever in the Nashua-Plainfield dual.

He’d lose his first match by decision and pinned in his second.

But, his final match of the night was special.
