GHV girls meet new soccer coach

There will be a new face on GHV’s sideline during girls’ soccer matches this season. Hanna DeVries has taken over the reins of the girls’ program as long time coach Josh Banse elected to switch genders and become an assistant coach in the boys’ program. DeVries may be new to the coaching circuit but is no stranger to the sport as she played high school soccer in Albert Lea before spending four years as the Waldorf College goalkeeper. Hanna built an impressive resume of achievements during her years as a member of the Warrior soccer team that included defensive awards along with all-conference honors. She is hopeful that her knowledge of the game and the necessary fundamentals will lead to good things for the Cardinal program.

Coach DeVries has an abundance of talent to consider as she assembles her lineups this season. With six seniors and six juniors returning as letter winners the Cardinals will hopefully see an improvement over last year’s 5 – 10 record.

Senior letter winners on the squad include Abby Kale, Ashley Markla, Jacki Van Oort, Tehya Mitchell, Alaina Scott and Morgan Westendorf. Van Oort was one of GHV’s scoring leaders in 2017 with six goals scored while Westendorf recorded 134 saves as goalkeeper.
