Garner-Hayfield-Ventura football fought with the season on the line on Friday night.

GHV hosted Spirit Lake, facing off for a claim at a Class 2A playoff spot.

The Cardinals led 24-7 against visiting Indians after two quarters.

The Indians would outscore the Cardinals 27-6 in the second half to claim a 34-29 victory.

Nearing the end of the third quarter, GHV responded to two unanswered Spirit Lake touchdowns via an Isaac Knutson run for 83 yards.

Leading 29-21, The Cardinal defense was tasked with stopping the Spirit Lake attack.

The Indians managed to get down to GHV’s 20-yard line, facing a fourth and five.

Spirit Lake quarterback Brent Scott rolled out to the right and found a receiver on an out route.

The Indian wideout had caught the ball past the first down marker, but lost his grip on the pigskin.

GHV’s Ethan Kale fell onto the ball for the recovery.
