GHV Football establishes leadership in difficult season

The season did not end the way any football team would want it.

Garner-Hayfield-Ventura fell to Spirit Lake in a blowout to end the year 3-6.

But even with the game out of reach, the Cardinals never gave up on a play till it was over.

Almost every game this season had two main themes, whether it was a win or a loss.

The team gradually improved and they never quit playing tough opponents in Class 2A District 2.

“I was really impressed with the fortitude of our men,” coach Scott Van Dusseldorp said.

The team often struggled in the first half of the game, Van Dusseldorp noticed better play and energy in the second half of a game no matter what the score was.

GHV netted wins against bitter rival West Hancock to start the year, Estherville Lincoln Central and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.
