The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys basketball team traveled to Webster City on Feb. 19 to claim a District championship.

South Hamilton had other plans for the Cardinals that night.

The Cardinals tried their best to keep up after a slow start, but ended up losing 54-71.

From the start, the South Hamilton offense hit its mark to go up 23-7 in the first quarter.

The Cardinals set out to minimize the talented guards on the opposition.

No South Hamilton player scored more than 15 points, but four players total put up double digits.

GHV had to pick its poison in terms of who to guard.

The team did well to protect the rim, but outside shooting in the first quarter helped to open up the Cardinals’ defenses.

“You get a team that shoot’s that hot, it’s tough to stop,” coach Jake Young said.
