GHV soccer coach Eric Williams saw his boys’ team make history last year with the Cardinals’ first-ever trip to the Class 1A State Tournament. With that accomplishment under their belts, the Cardinals no doubt have a return trip to the state tourney on their minds and Williams is hoping that his team can pick up where they left off.

Coach Williams has good reason for an optimistic outlook to the upcoming season. With 11 letter winners rejoining the team the Cardinals are looking to improve on last season’s 10 – 7 record. The Cards assembled a five-game winning streak at the end of the season in 2017 before being eliminated in their state tourney first round match.

Nine seniors are returning to the Cardinal squad, adding depth and experience to a talented roster. Alex Mary, Brady Hess and Dane Whipple filled spots on the defensive side of the turf while Colton Schroeder, Jonah Albertson and Ryan Meyers all play midfield positions. Seth Miller and Connor Burke return as forwards with Burke leading the team offensively last season with 26 goals. Nick Joynt returns as GHV’s goalie after an impressive season that saw him record 85 saves while earning third team all-state honors. Juniors Jace Pringnitz and Jared Graham also return as letter winners in the positions of defender and midfield respectively.
