The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura soccer club traveled to Mason City on Apr. 29, their only match for the week.

The Cardinals were lacking five of their starters, giving some valuable experience to the bench and role players.

Offensively, the team had its opportunities in the first half but weren’t able to catch a break to more than a single goal in; Mason City would also score one in the first half.

The Mohawks pulled ahead with a penalty kick in the second half.

One more goal would give the game’s final score of 1-3.

Ryan Hackenmiller was the one to score the sole GHV goal with his only shot on goal.

Matthew Barrickman was the one to guard the goal for most of the match, he made 12 saves despite the three goals.

“This game provided some of our role players with extensive action,” coaches Joe Albertson and Josh Banse said. “Improvement has been made in many areas, but we are to the point of the season where we need to take a bigger jump in our play.”
