With one round of TIC basketball action completed, the GHV boys’ team is still within striking distance of repeating as league champions. In spite of dropping two league contests, the Cards saw the race tighten up last week when Bishop Garrigan handed Forest City their first loss of the season. Both GHV and Garrigan trail the Indians by one game midway through the schedule, setting the stage for some pivotal matchups over the next four weeks.

GHV returned to action following the holiday layoff on Friday with a home floor game against North Union. The Warriors have notched only two victories to date this year, and the game was expected to be a snoozer for the Cards. GHV’s burst to a 22 – 4 first quarter advantage led to those expectations being realized. The Cardinal lead expanded to 39 – 14 by halftime and the 35-point mercy rule was reached with three minutes remaining in the third quarter. With the continuous clock in play, GHV’s reserves carried the load through the fourth period on the way to a 73 – 26 victory.
