Playing four times in five days proved to be a good thing for the GHV boys’ soccer team. The Cards were winners in three of those matches and appear to be gearing up for the post-season.

The week opened with a match at Webster City. The Lynx are an established program and topped GHV 2 -1 earlier this season. The Cardinals were able to avenge that loss with a 1 – 0 shutout.

Colton Schroeder scored the winning goal for GHV thanks to an assist from Dane Whipple. The Cardinal offense moved the ball well in the match as Connor Burke and Jonah Albertson recorded three and two shots-on-goal respectively. Schroeder also had two shots-on-goal while Jared Graham added one. Burke was also credited with four shots on the night and Whipple also had a shot. Landon Dalbeck finished the match with eight saves at the net.

Cardinal coach Eric Williams commented, “We started to play more like a team. Webster City has a good team and for most of the match we had possession of the ball and put pressure on their goalkeeper. They had their shots but our defense played really well and kept most shots from a distance.”
