GARNER – In 20 days, literally thousands of visitors will be rolling through Hancock County. The Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI XLV) will be coming through the area on Tuesday, July 25. Garner is pass-through community on Day 3 of the ride (Algona to Clear Lake).

The Garner RAGBRAI committee reports preparations are well underway.

•The theme for Garner - “The Tire Service Truck Capital of the World” – salutes two of Garner’s largest industries – Stellar Industries and Iowa Mold Tooling.

The design, created by Danielle Goll, is featured on T-shirts that will be worn by RAGBRAI volunteers. The T-shirts are sponsored by Clear Lake Bank and Trust.

•Entertainment and vendors for RAGBRAI will be located at Central Park.

•Volunteers will be needed for cleanup before RAGBRAI. Watch for more information about a cleanup day prior to the ride.

•Volunteers will also be needed for takedown and cleanup at Central Park on July 25 as bikers head for Clear Lake. Volunteers should meet at Central Park at 5 p.m. Contact Marline Lewerke at 641-430-0937.

•Volunteers are needed to monitor street intersections along the route through during the ride to ensure bikers get through safely. Contact the Garner Chamber of Commerce to sign up.

•A map of the RAGBRAI route through Garner, will be published in a future edition of The Leader.

•Residents who live along the RAGBRAI route through town should park their cars on a side street on July 25, since State Street will be blocked off to all other vehicle traffic.

“We’re proud to have this opportunity to showcase our community,” said Amber Jenniges, Garner Chamber of Commerce director. “Our goal is for RAGBRAI to be a safe, enjoyable time for all.”
