The West Hancock softball team hosted rival Garner-Hayfield-Ventura on July 2.

The teams were not able to play their first game against each other, so the rivals went the distance in a doubleheader matchup.

The Eagles secured a 3-6 and 11-14 victory.

Game one of the day featured halting defense on both sides.

West Hancock took the lead over in the third inning by cranking out four runs, leading 4-2.

They’d stop the cardinals from making a meaningful attempt at a comeback, holding them to one run that was scored in the sixth.

The girls recorded nine hits in the game, with Madison Eisenman, Kennedy Kelly and Grace Rosin putting up two hits.

            Kelly had a triple.

Carlee Bruns cranked out a homer to pull in two runs.

“[We told them] just hit the ball hard somewhere,” coach Ethan Weiss said. “Make them try to make that play.”
