Eagles girls golf weathers tough start to the week

The West Hancock girls golf team struggled a bit in their first meet of the week in Belmond on Apr. 29.

By the second meet at North Iowa on Thursday, the team saw an incremental improvement in their score.

They recorded 251 strokes at Belmond, well behind Belmond-Klemme’s 222 and North Union’s 207.

The Eagles managed to beat Forest City and North Iowa on Thursday.

They’d improve on the meet before with a 243 against the Indians 279; North Iowa was unable to complete a team score.

Abby Melohn was the medalist of the tournament with a score of 50; Melohn was the only one to score in the low 50s on Apr. 29 with 52.

Ryleigh Hudspeth earned the runner-up spot with a 58.

Each golfer had small improvements on their score, not necessarily noticeable individually, but as a group the team was able to lessen the stroke count from 251 to 243.
