West Hancock girls’ basketball sits at No. 2 in Class 1A after two victories over Lake Mills on the road and Eagle Grove at home.

The Eagles defeated the Bulldogs 75-31 on Nov. 27 and beat Eagle Grove 69-31 at home on Friday.

The scores stand on its own in how these games went, but according to coach Paul Sonius there was more to it than a blowout.

“We’re not quite hitting on all cylinders yet,” he said. “And that’s amazing to be saying that when you beat somebody 40 to 30 points in two games.”

That’s not to say there wasn’t a lot of positives for the West Hancock coach.

The team had a lot of success on offense

“I think we got good play especially out of my top six players,” Sonius said. “The bottom [lineup] kind of didn’t quite do as well, but they still did alright.”
