City moves forward with housing rehab grant

GARNER – Several items pertaining to the City of Garner’s application for a housing rehabilitation grant were on city council’s agenda, April 10.

The City of Garner is applying for a $239,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to rehabilitate up to six to eight qualifying owner-occupied homes.

The Iowa Economic Development Housing Authority (IEDA) administers the CDBG Iowa Housing Fund grant. The City of Garner agrees to contribute $15,000 as a local match.

A temporary relocation policy allocates $1,250 per project in the event a homeowner may have to be relocated out of his/her home should there be the lead-based paint disturbance activity.

The council approved an administrative plan in connection to the project. The plan, developed by the North Iowa Area Council of Governments (NIACOG), is submitted with the grant application. NIACOG was also named as the technical services provider for the grant.
