Cards race at Eagle Grove

            GHV’s cross-country squads are fine-tuning their skills as some of the season’s biggest races are just around the corner. Last week the Cardinals traveled to Eagle Grove to race against six competing teams in preparation for the post-season.

            The Cardinal boys placed third overall against some very tough competition. Gilbert won the team title with 43 points followed by Clear Lake’s 62 points. GHV finished the day with 76 points.

            Reece Smith won the individual title with a time of 16:23. Ray Cataldo was third overall in 17:00 followed by Dalton Kelley in 19th place with a time of 18:24. Blake Lynch and Jake Hejlik scored for GHV placing 21st (18:39) and 32nd (19:06) respectively. Completing the varsity roster were Andy Schreur (36th, 19:21) and Nathan Larson (41st, 19:49).

            In girl’s action Humboldt won the crown with 27 points followed by Spencer with 37points. GHV placed sixth overall with 147 points. Abby Christians was GHV’s top finisher, placing eight individually with a time of 21:28. Jillian Heitland finished 32nd in 24:28 with Rachel Sokol right behind in 33rd place with a time of 24:36.
