Regardless of the sport, all coaches like to see their team head into tournament play with momentum. Unfortunately that was not the case for GHV last week as the Cardinals concluded their regular season schedule with a pair of non-conference losses. The good news is that those struggles did not continue into their first round Class 2A district game as GHV advanced with a win over Belmond-Klemme.

The final week of the regular season featured GHV hosting Central Springs on Monday. The Panthers scored three runs in the third inning and then added runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings on the way to a 10 – 2 victory over the Cards.

Ryan Meyers hit a pair of singles and Dane Whipple added a double to lead GHV at the plate. Colton Schroeder, Cade Bamrick, Brady Hess and Brody Boehnke all added base hits to the Cardinal offense. Anthony Sherwood started on the mound for the Cards, giving up nine hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Dane Whipple pitched the seventh inning, walking three while allowing two hits.
