Cardinals volleyball goes 2-0 on the week

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura volleyball team played two opponents in a week.

The Cardinals pulled away two wins against North Union at home on Oct. 8 and Rockford on the road on Thursday.

The girls defeated North Union in a full five sets, winning 3-2.

After going up 25-22 in the first set, the Cardinals would drop set two and three by 17-25 and 21-25.

 GHV took over from there, winning 25-18 and finishing off the warriors 15-7 in the fifth set.

The team had four players producing on offensive.

Erica Eenhuis and Chloe Frank recorded 11 kills each.

Carlee Frayne and Morgan Ryerson had eight kills of their own.  

Jayden Frank had 21 assists, Maddie Graham followed behind with 13.

Graham also had five aces.

Coach Meriel Leavy said the game was a result of the team focusing on enjoying the game.

 “We’re still working on eliminating the amount of kill errors that we have, but no matter what you’re going to have errors in the game,” she said.
