Garner-Hayfield-Ventura’s Abby Christians and Jake Hejlik represented their school at the Class 2A Cross Country State Championship in Fort Dodge on Saturday.

Both runners had their experience running the course at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course and it showed in their times.

Christians was just one spot short of the podium, finishing in 16th place.

Christians ran a time of 19:46.5, 15 seconds faster than last year.

“I felt she looked the strongest she's looked all year,” coach Kaitlyn Aberson said. “We worked on getting out and getting aggressive early, which she definitely did at the state meet. This allowed her to hang with the best of them and take a significant chunk off of her time.”
Hejlik finished in 63rd in the boys race.

            He’d post a time of 17:48.9.
