Cardinal girls run into tough Osage team for 2020 return

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls basketball team had its initial game this week cancelled due to weather on Friday; they were scheduled to play Eagle Grove on the road.

On Saturday, the GHV girls left the boys team back in Garner to square off against Class 2A No. 5 Osage on the road.

            The Cardinals would fall 56-75.

It was a case of running out of steam in the second and third quarter for GHV.

After one quarter, the Green Devils only led 18-14.

The starters played more minutes than usual and it showed in the following quarters.

In the second and third, the Cardinals were outscored 44-22.

Osage’s three-point shooting helped to heat up their scoring spree.

GHV played strong in the fourth quarter, scoring 20 to Osage’s 13.

Coach Matt Frank found a lot of positives in the team’s performance.

“I was happy with our press break,” he said.
