BRITT -  Blanche Chizek couldn’t believe the news when she was told she would be the Grand Marshall

“There’s so many other people here in town that deserve it a lot more than I do,” she said.

She’ll tell that to anybody that congratulates her.

Chizek has been a long time community member in Britt as the treasurer for the local VFW Auxiliary and a volunteer at the Summit House and the Hancock County Health Services hospital in Britt.

“I don’t think I’m [any more] special than anybody else,” Chizek said.

Chizek helps out at the front desk in the hospital by assisting people and patients anyway they need them.

As part of the Summit House, Chizek helps do the nails of residents and will drive them to appointments.

She used to work as cook at the hospital for 15 years and 5 years at the Summit House.

She also helped her late-husband William with farming chores.

“Everywhere I worked, I loved it!” Chizek said.
