A classic board game is brought to life on the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura stage this weekend. “Clue, On Stage!” will be presented Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8-9 at GHV auditorium. Both performances will be at 7 p.m.

“Clue, On Stage!” is based on the screenplay by Jonathan Lynn. The stage adaptation is based on the cult classic film made popular in the mid 1980s.

Elizabeth May is the drama coach at GHV.

“I have always wanted to produce Clue, but it never seemed to be the right time until now,” said May. “When I was younger, the ‘80s movie starring Tim Curry was one of my absolute favorites. My friends and I would often quote it, and when I ran across this script that so mirrored one of my favorite films, I knew I simply had to do this play at some point. It is just so ridiculously funny and well-written.”

The play opens with a mystery. Six guests are invited to a dinner party thrown by an anonymous host. They are given aliases - Colonel Mustard, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock, Professor Plum, and Miss Scarlet.

Though discouraged from revealing personal information, it is soon discovered that all of them have fallen victim to the same blackmailer - their host of the evening. Each is presented with a weapon and an option: pay their extortionist double, or kill, Wadsworth, the innocent butler.

What follows is a madcap evening full of murder, mystery, and laughs as they seek to puzzle out the culprit amongst criminals.
